HVAC System Repair vs. Replacement
|
|
It's just a reality of life. Mechanical systems like your HVAC system wear out and must be refurbished and replaced. Over the past 20 years, HVAC system efficiencies have more than doubled leading astute home and building owners to discover that they can save substantially by replacing their old system rather than continuing to repair it.
But the initial investment is huge, you say? True, but that initial investment is not the only cost profile to consider. Life Cycle Costing...is an important concept for home and building owners to understand when it comes to the Repair vs. Replacement analysis. Building owners must look beyond the initial investment in equipment, controls and ducting and include the cost of anticipated preventive maintenance, system servicing, future repairs and, most of all, energy costs over their full life cycle.
The illustration on the left provides a concept of the various cost components of operating a HVAC system over its life time. Preventive maintenance costs, by far the lowest costs of ownership, are represented by the red area, initial investment and periodic repair costs are represented by the white area, and the gas and electricity consumed to provide the indoor comfort are represented by the gray area. Clearly, if you are evaluating an investment that will last 12 to 15 years, savvy homeowners want to know what that total cost will be.
Remember the expression: You can pay me now, or you can pay me later. Nowhere is that more true than in your home's or building's HVAC system. First things first; maintain your system to save money. A decision to postpone or eliminate preventive maintenance will drive both of the other cost areas substantially upward over the life of the system. To solve that problem, ANI recommends our Energy Savings Agreement program. Our technicians will keep your existing system at peak efficiency so that your energy bills will be as low as possible for the equipment you have. But what if you could save even more money? With today's utility rates and an old inefficient system, you could be saving money every month!

If your HVAC system has a Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating (SEER) of 12 or less and your equipment is over 10 years old, you can substantially reduce your energy bills by upgrading your system with equipment components having a 16 SEER or higher. ANI has been designing and installing high-efficiency system upgrades for years. The reason?: high-efficiency systems being manufactured today use less than half the energy of a properly sized and installed standard system built over 10 years ago. With the cost of electricity, natural gas, propane and heating oil near historic inflation-adjusted highs, savvy consumers come to ANI seeking to maximize the return on their HVAC investment dollar and saving money every month with an Art Newsome high efficiency replacement system.
Did you know that High Efficiency HVAC systems reduce greenhouse gases? 70% of all electricity worldwide is generated using fossil fuels and HVAC systems are the largest consumer of electricity. Even small increases in efficiency reduce power consumption and the volume of greenhouse gasses created during the generation process. A 12% improvement in world wide chiller system efficiency would have the same impact as taking 2,000,000 cars off the road or planting 500,000,000 trees each year. Now you can be both economical and environmentally smart with an ANI high-efficiency system upgrade.
